Bradwell B holds third Community Forum

Community organisations hear about Bradwell B project development and the experience of developing the Hinkley Point C Project in Somerset

Following earlier sessions in October 2020 and February 2021, the third Bradwell B Community Forum took place remotely this week on Tuesday evening (22nd June). The Community Forum aims to establish ongoing dialogue and discussion about the development of the Project between the developer, and local communities and organisations with an interest in the development of Bradwell B.

The meeting heard from Bradwell B’s engineering team about the work that is taking place this year behind the scenes, whilst the Environment Agency provided an update on the conclusion of its recent consultation on the generic design assessment of the chosen technology for the project, the UK HPR1000.

The Forum then received a presentation from Bradwell B’s sister project, Hinkley Point C, about how it has managed relationships with the local community, delivered socio-economic benefits throughout, and how it has managed the impacts from its construction.

Bradwell B’s Community Relations Manager, Stephen Bray commented: “Once again, we are grateful to the members of the forum for giving up a part of their evening to attend. We hope that they found it useful, and certainly, there were many questions for our presenters, which is exactly what we hoped it would achieve.

“In particular we are grateful to our colleague from Hinkley Point C, who gave an account of their experience of a nuclear new build project. It is important to note that the success in Somerset, for the project, the communities and local businesses, is all down to effective engagement between them from the very start. We look forward to developing a similarly successful project for Essex.”

Notes from the meeting, and presentations will be uploaded to Bradwell B’s website in the next few days.
