Happy Spring Festival from the Bradwell B project team

Chūnjié kuàilè – Happy Spring Festival

We would like to wish our Chinese colleagues, and other East and South East Asian communities and stakeholders across the UK a happy lunar new year and Spring Festival. This 15-day festival is celebrated across China and many East and South East Asian countries and traditionally involves people spending time with their families.

Light is a central theme during Spring Festival celebrations, with people traditionally decorating their homes with lanterns or lighting firecrackers and fireworks. We have produced a lantern template which can be downloaded and decorated by children and adults alike to recognise this important festival.

As part of Chinese tradition, each year is represented by an animal and one of five elements. The upcoming 2021 will be the year of the Metal Ox, characterised by being hardworking, active and always busy.

Spring Festival has a significance for Bradwell B; with Chinese developer CGN as the main shareholder, many Chinese colleagues are working alongside colleagues from the UK and other nations in developing the Bradwell B proposals.

CGN is a globally respected developer and operator of nuclear power plants, and celebrates a history of more than 40 years.  Its first nuclear power station development was in 1987, in partnership with EDF, when construction started on the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station. This project allowed China to develop its nuclear skills for the future deployment of large-scale commercial nuclear power technology both in China and around the world.

Today CGN employs 42,000 staff and is the world’s third biggest nuclear power company. Beyond nuclear, CGN currently generates 30GW of renewable energy globally, including 340MW of onshore wind in the UK and Ireland. This history of expertise, collaboration and skill development is something CGN is proud of and will continue with projects like Bradwell B.

Finally, although lunar new year will be different this year for communities across the world, we would once again like to wish you a safe and happy Spring Festival and luck and happiness in the year ahead.
